Tariku Kare: Sidama, Ethiopia
From the Importer
Introducing the exquisite coffee from Refisa Washing Station, located in Nensebo woreda, Oromia, Ethiopia: Tariku Kare. Situated about 400 km south of Addis Ababa, this station sources red cherries from 593 farmers across Refisa, Roricho, Bulga, and Riripa villages. Nensebo is a new coffee-growing area at extraordinary elevations of up to 2200 masl, with smallholder farms averaging two hectares each and containing a mix of local and wild coffee varietals.
The story behind Refisa Washing Station is one of perseverance and success. Tariku Kare, the owner, began his journey as a cherry sorter at 15 and worked his way up to manage various washing stations. His dedication led him to form a company with 17 other workers after market disruptions. Tariku eventually opened the Refisa Washing Station, paying premiums for ripe cherries and incentivizing farmers to contribute annually. His commitment to quality and community has established Refisa as a significant supplier to the international coffee market.
From the Roaster
Tariku Kare is yet another amazing example of why coffees from Ethiopia are so sought after. And most coffee drinkers can tell an anecdote about the first one they tried and how uniquely different and special it was compared to other coffees they've had before. This is one of those coffees that will stick in your memories and that you'll tell stories about later when you think of some of the better coffee experiences you've had. We're super excited to curate this experience and to get the opportunity to offer the Tariku Kare. It's remarkable and unforgettable with mouthwatering juiciness of ripe peach, strawberry, and sugary southern sweet tea all while remaining wonderfully balanced. The clarity of flavor in this naturally processed coffee is unmatched and tastes like each one of these tasting notes have been turned up to 11. We can't wait for you to see for yourselves!
