Coffee Club, From 800 Miles Away

One of my favorite things about working at Tala is that everyone here genuinely believes in what we roast. We’re constantly drinking our own coffee, talking about it, experimenting with brew methods, and getting to know every coffee that comes through the Roastery. Needless to say, when great coffee is part of your everyday life, it’s pretty easy to get attached.

I just didn’t realize how attached I was until I moved 800 miles away.

If you’ve read any of my previous blogs, you’d probably know that I moved to New York City last August (I promise I’ll stop talking about it eventually). And as one could imagine, moving to a new city inevitably means facing new challenges — I just didn’t expect my biggest challenge to be, well, coffee-related.

Now, New York surely isn’t short on coffee shops, but after years of being spoiled with freshly roasted specialty coffee, I had a hard time finding beans that compared to what I was used to drinking at Tala. Have I been spoiled? Absolutely. But I’d also like to consider myself a coffee loyalist. A woman of consistency, if you will.

My Questionable Solution

For a while, I tried to solve the problem by stockpiling bags of coffee beans whenever I flew home. Eventually, planning my coffee supply around trips to Chicago became a little ridiculous. Unless you’re a chronic under-packer, I wouldn’t recommend trying to fit your coffee stash into an already overly-stuffed suitcase (speaking from experience).

So, after listening to me complain one too many times, one of our owners, Joanna, finally suggested that I sign up for Coffee Club.

The solution was so obvious, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it myself.

Soon after, Bethany, our Production Manager, got everything set up, and fresh Tala coffee started showing up at my doorstep in Brooklyn.

Turns Out, It Really Is That Easy

Aside from the delicious coffee beans, my favorite part of Coffee Club for me is that it’s tailored to me. I know exactly what I’m getting, who’s packing it, and when it’s coming. I don’t have to wait for my next trip home, squeeze extra bags into my suitcase, or spend an afternoon trying to find something comparable. My favorite coffee simply shows up at my door.

And it’s easy to make Coffee Club work around your own habits, too:

  • Choose your delivery schedule: weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

  • Pick your coffee: stick with a favorite or let our production team surprise you with Roaster’s Choice.

  • Choose your bag size and grind: because everyone’s coffee setup is a little different.

  • Get it delivered straight to your door: no coffee runs, suitcase Tetris, or last-minute bean emergencies required.

A Little Taste of Home

Despite being a part of the club for almost a year now, there’s still something special about opening my door and finding a fresh bag of Tala coffee waiting for me. Maybe it’s because I know the people who packed it. Maybe it’s because I know exactly how good that first cup is going to be. Or maybe I’m just a twenty-something-year-old with a serious coffee attachment.

Either way, Coffee Club has made one thing very clear: I don’t have to compromise on the coffee I love just because I moved away. And that’s what makes it so special.

So, whether you’re a few minutes from one of our cafés or 800 miles away like me, don’t forget that great coffee doesn’t have to be complicated. Pick what you like, choose how often you want it, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Because when you know what you love, why compromise?
