In Celebration of Mom

Two years ago on Mother’s Day of 2021 the Highwood cafe was busy like we hadn’t seen before. The lines and consistency of customers took us by surprise and we were able to serve so many wonderful moms and even more family members picking up coffee for mom for the special day. Yet, realistically, this shouldn’t have surprised us. Moms play such a vital and special role in our lives. They deserve to be celebrated a lot more than just one day in May every year. The turn out of customers in the cafe that Sunday morning spoke to the amazing and irreplaceable role moms play in our lives.

From our biological moms, to the role models and women that have built a motherly bond with us over time, we are so thankful for each and every one of you. You have brought comfort, advice, kindness, gentleness, love, and unending support into our lives. You show us how to keep going and what matters most in life. As a way to say thank you to our moms and the women who show us what being motherly means, the Tala staff has written up a quick list of our favorite things about our moms. We hope this inspires all the moms out there and makes everyone reflect on the motherly figures in their lives and share a little love and gratitude with them on this lovely mother’s day.

Reflections and praise for the mothers that raised us, from some of the Tala team:

Stefan:

She modeled Jesus for me and taught me the depth and power of empathy.

Jo:

She taught me the power of sharing in someone’s burdens and the importance of “we” over “me.”

Keith:

She’s taught me what it looks like to be strong in the Lord and to have faith that can stand in the face of pain and suffering. She’s the strongest and most joyful Mom I know and am so glad she’s mine!

Bethany:

She’s always down for ice cream dates and finds joy in little things.

Cassie:

No matter what she’s always supported me and encouraged me—she’s been one of the biggest cheerleaders in my life and always believes in me and my abilities.

Conner:

My mother is the best nurse in the Northern... and Southern Hemispheres.

Erik:

She is able to make anyone feel incredibly seen and loved.

Haley:

My mom created so many fun traditions for us as kids that I will never forget.

Kate:

She gives the best hugs in the entire world.

Katie:

My favorite thing about my mom is her sense of humor and her ability to find something to laugh about every day!

Lili:

She is everything I aspire to be. I would be lucky to be half the woman she is when I’m older.

Martha:

She enjoys antiquing as much as I do, embraces surprise adventures, and is very thoughtful and encouraging.

Reese:

She supports me in everything I do.

Sydney:

She taught me the importance of expressing and chasing my passions. Without her I wouldn’t have such a powerful role model who provides me a space to be vulnerable and truly myself.

Tayah:

I appreciate how my mom takes time to see me and put me first to the best of her ability.
