Homemade cinnamon roll Recipe

This recipe will make 6-8 large cinnamon rolls but can be doubled.

prepare the dough

Ingredients:

  • 230 g warm water

  • 2 eggs

  • 5g olive oil

  • 7 g (1 packet) yeast

  • 40g sugar

  • 550g flour

  • 10g salt

Instructions:

Put all the ingredients into the mixing bowl and stir by hand to combine. Use a mixer and mix for 4-5 minutes until the dough is smooth. Transfer to a separate bowl that has been sprayed with oil, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours in a warm place. As the dough rises, make the filling (below).

Cinnamon roll filling

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz brown sugar

  • 4 oz soften butter

  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

This is easy, mix all the ingredients with a mixer (or a whisk if you want a workout). Mix until light and fluffy. Set aside to be used in the next step (below).

Roll the dough

Instructions:

Once your dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle making sure one width is always about 12 inches. The length for this recipe will be about 12 inches as well but if you double it for a crowd it will be 24 inches. Spread the cinnamon filling across the dough evenly but make sure to leave one inch along the length of the dough so that you can pinch the dough together as you roll it up. Roll the dough from the top (the side with the filling) towards the bottom (the side without the filling) and use a little warm water where there is no filling to stick the dough to itself. Next, take a piece of floss or fine thread and wrap it around the dough roll every two inches and cinch it down so it cleanly cuts each roll. If you need some guidance follow this handy video. Place rolls together, similar to a sticky bread, or apart, to create individual rolls, on a greased baking sheet.

Cover baking sheet with plastic wrap or a plastic grocery bag and place in a warm spot for 30-60 minutes until they rise slightly. Preheat oven to 325 and bake for 30-35 minutes.

Note for baking next day: Follow all the steps above but put into refrigerator after you cover the rolls with plastic wrap if you’re baking them the next day. The next day take rolls out 30 minutes prior to baking and let sit at room temperature. Then place into oven and bake as instructed above.

Don’t forget the icing!

This part can be saved until right before the cinnamon rolls come out.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups powered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  • 4 tablespoons milk of your choice

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together. You can use a mixer to make this easier! Start the coffee brewing and get ready to enjoy a delicious breakfast! We advise frosting the cinnamon rolls when they are still warm so that the frosting spreads smoothly over the rolls.
