Outside is Open: Adventure Coffee
Lockdown obviously has changed all of our lives in a lot of ways, but the good news is that outside is still open! It isn’t exactly atypical for me to spend lots of time outside but in this season the time feels even more important. There’s something about the fresh air and the open spaces that feels so safe and comforting. In the midst of the lockdown the outdoors is the gift we didn’t know we needed.
My outside time is often brought to an absolute peak when I combine it with coffee. Hiking with coffee in hand, reading a book while sipping a coffee or even making coffee over the fire while camping. Most of my best memories are at the intersection of outdoors and coffee. Maybe that’s just me, but if you’re with me, here are three ways to enjoy coffee outside:
Make coffee before you leave and keep it warm in a thermos. A good thermos can keep coffee warm for hours. A few months ago we took a winter hike in Starved Rock and we made coffee before leaving and it was still warm mid-way through our hike! Just make your coffee and put it in your thermos as quickly as you can. To keep it even warmer, heat the thermos first with some hot water.
Make coffee outdoors. Maybe you’re just looking to learn a new skill, or maybe you’re going camping while you have some time off work. Either way, making coffee outside is easier than it looks! Last spring we partnered with REI to bring you a comprehensive brew guide for making coffee in the wild.
Stop by the cafe and bring your drink on a walk. Less adventurous maybe, but equally as fun. Let us make the coffee for you and you can get on your way adventuring. Order online for curbside pickup and then take a walk downtown or go to a forest preserve.
