Getting Creative with Amoret
Jesse Taylor is simply a guy who enjoys coffee and loves music. More specifically, he has loved music since he started playing violin in preschool, “‘I still have the violin around, I’ve recorded a couple times with it but I’m not good anymore!’ He laughs, ‘It’s very technical. . . My main instrument now would be guitar but drums were my primary instrument through middle school and high school for a long time.’”
Music is something that comes naturally to to Jesse and while his job title is technically tech director, he deals with a lot of music in his day-to-day while he works at The Chapel. A lot of his job is behind the scenes to ensure things continue to run smoothly on the production side of things. When he’s not at The Chapel you can find Jesse working on some creative projects either solo or with friends. These projects range from brainstorming ideas to recording songs to making music videos together. One of the most recent and noteworthy projects Jesse has taken on is his release of songs inspired by coffee. This is where Amoret comes in!
Amoret is our espresso blend that is delicious served up as a double shot and is featured in all of our espresso-based drinks. It is a well balanced blend with tasting notes of semi-sweet chocolate, cream and almond. It is delicious—even delicious enough to inspire a song! Jesse wrote the single, amoret, earlier this year. It is the second release in his coffee album series currently. He has been working on this passion project which began with the release of, cappuccino, in 2022. This song was influenced by the cappuccino at Madcap Coffee Roasters based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. His goal is to eventually have a whole coffee album he shares. “I drink coffee everyday it’s worth it! It’s the music I put on when i’m making it at my house so it’s just the vibe of it!”
When asked about his coffee routine Jesse shares “ I just do black coffee with my Fellow rig. We have a little milk frother so I’ll do some milk drinks every once in a while. But it’s just not the same without espresso.” While Jesse hopes to get an espresso machine at home someday, he’s content with regular black coffee and the pause it brings to his mornings, “I got into [coffee], and I don’t want to make this cheesy or anything but it’s kind of an art form in itself. Making things well and food culture. You can make it in the morning for caffeine or whatever and that’s great and definitely a benefit but to another extent, it’s a way to put time aside in the morning and slow yourself down. If you’re doing the pour over or if you’re just sitting down with a drip and just drinking it. At least for me it gives time in the morning and it’s definitely just a dedicated part of the day type of thing.”
When asked why he chose to feature and collaborate with specific coffee shops instead of creating a general album on coffee Jesse shares, “I’ve put out a couple of albums before that were called morning brew so this is in the same series. The theme was kind of tied in before but I was thinking, ‘what can I do to make it actually tied into and involved in coffee culture?’ I was trying to be way more intentional about it. I wanted to tie it in more with coffee culture instead of it just being a song that says something about coffee. And it’s instrumental too so there’s literally no lyrics about coffee. I was just trying to get it actually involved in it.” And he did get involved, so involved that one of his tracks on amoret is of the everyday chatter in the Highwood cafe, “amoret has least twenty-something tracks with the layers of it. There’s stuff that’s hidden down in there. There’s a whole track, in the part where it switches up the drums in the down part there’s a whole track where I turned a voice memo on over at that big table and just set it on the table for a little bit. So it’s just the coffee shop sounds.”
Music is life-giving and exciting for Jesse, but there is a fine balance between creating and sharing what he has created: “With social media stuff it can become more of a job sometimes but the music making part is not a job. I’ll do that forever, it’s just enjoyable to do. It’s just for me to listen to, for other people if they like it. . . it’s definitely more fun to do things if you have an audience so you want to promote yourself but when you get into the social media hustle promoting yourself, it’s fun to make content, I enjoy making some of the videos but if you let it take over it can become a full time job.” When asked, Jesse assured me that this project is still very much so about the fun of creating something new and unique!
