Hosting with Coffee
This time of year you might find a few extra people in your home. Invited, uninvited—who really knows. Keeping the peace and putting your most hospitable foot forward always starts with coffee. Let’s make sure no one catches each other before their morning coffee. It’ll be better that way, won’t it? Here’s a few tips for the best help-yourself coffee station to impress the guests and make your life easier.
Our tips for hosting with coffee
Buy the bigger bag
Not only do you have extra people around, you’ll probably need an extra cup to make it through all the turkey roasting, sweet-potato mashing and pumpkin pie baking. This is no time to run out of coffee, so be prepared with getting a little extra. Our coffee gets cheaper the more you buy, so feel free to spring for the 2Ib (or maybe the 5Ib) and save!
Have a few options
Another great way to wow the guests is to offer a few options. Maybe you like single origin coffees but you aren’t sure what your guests would prefer. Try getting one bag of our Ruca House Blend to please the crowd, and a bag of a single origin offering to mix it up a bit. Don’t forget decaf for the late-night coffee drinkers or anyone avoiding caffeine!
Make it inviting
At the heart of hospitality is invitation. The “help yourself” attitude strikes a balance between inviting guests to indulge and feeling part of the family. Making a welcoming morning coffee spread says, “help yourself” at the same time as it makes the guest feel welcome and served. A few things to make your coffee station more inviting:
Fun mug selection. Bust out your favorite mugs for your guests. Set them out to give off the “help yourself” vibe.
Decorate. The Holidays is nothing if not decorated. Have some fun adding in greenery or holiday decor to your coffee station to make it feel like a permanent arrangement in the home.
Leave a note. A “good morning, help yourself” adds a warm touch.
Don’t forget The Add-ins
The add-ins make the station. You never know what your guests may want in their coffee, so having an array of add-ins really brings the magic (and let’s face it—it looks cute too). Here are some things we like to include in our coffee station for guests:
Sugar. Cubes, packets, shaker, bowl—however you display it sugar has to be part of the package. We suggest having a couple options for the crew, including a zero-calorie option.
Cream. Make sure the fridge is stocked with cream and a non-dairy alternative.
Syrup. We like to have a few of our house-made syrups for guests to add to their coffee. Available for purchase in our cafe.
Hot chocolate or tea. Although we can’t quite wrap our minds around it, there are those who don’t like coffee! It’s always a good idea to have a few quick options for them, too, like cocoa or tea.
Leave out instructions for self-serving
Leaving out instructions for your guests may be the best pro tip we have. Whether you want to sleep in past your guests or just not be responsible for making every person coffee every time they want it, this simple (and can I add adorable??) hack allows your guests to make it themselves. We’ve created three simple brew guides to help you this holiday season. Simply download our PDF and print the guides you want. Fill in the blanks with the information for your recipe.
