La Victoria: Huila, Colombia
Each harvest season brings with it a rush of excitement as fresh crop samples roll in, but this year, our anticipation has reached new heights—especially for coffees coming out of Colombia. Historically viewed as consistent but unremarkable, Colombian coffees once held a reputation for being “middle-of-the-road.” That narrative, however, has dramatically shifted. Thanks to producers and exporters who are pushing for quality and innovation, Colombia has become one of the world’s most exciting origins for specialty coffee. Among the coffees that perfectly showcase this evolution is La Victoria—a vibrant, fruit-forward offering from the Huila region, brought to us by our longtime partners at Coffee Ques
Sourced from the rich soil of the highlands of Huila, La Victoria is a communal lot composed of passionate producers from Santa Maria and Palermo—many of whom are part of the pioneer initiative, Productores del Futuro (Producers of the Future). Their farms stretch between 1,700 and 2,300 meters above sea level, nestled in the breathtaking terrain near the Huila Volcano. This micro-region, with its volcanic soil, elevation, and rich diversity of varieties—Typica, Pink Bourbon, Chiroso, San Bernardo, and more—creates the ideal conditions for vibrant, complex coffees of exceptional quality. La Victoria delivers in full, benefitting greatly from the natural hardiness of it’s many volcanic nutients—including space-rock like boron!
From the very first sip, La Victoria makes its unique flavor profile known. With it’s washed process, you can expect an array of bright, fruit-forward notes: think strawberry and black cherry tied together with a clean, structured sweetness that echoes fresh sugarcane juice. It’s juicy, bright, and uplifting—the kind of cup that makes you want to sit with it just a little bit longer. As it cools, the sweetness deepens and the citrus sparkles a bit brighter—every stage of the cup revealing new layers.
The careful attention that these farmers give to every cherry—handpicking at peak ripeness, extended fermentation, and traditional drying—results in a cup that’s nothing short of remarkable, and you can taste the exceptional process in each and every cup.
La Victoria is more than just a great coffee—it’s a story of progress, environment, and possibility. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
