This year, in honor of Mother’s Day, we asked our staff to reflect on those little inheritances from Mom and share why they are special.

Our newest release from Santa Barbara, Antioquia, Colombia, Andres Cardona, is the kind of coffee that instantly captures your attention and keeps you coming back for more. From its vibrant, red-fruit-forward profile to the thoughtful craftsmanship behind every step of its processing, this lot feels special from the very first sip.

Last Thursday, Highwood hosted our first-ever craft night! Designed for a good time, the doors opened at 6:30, and fellow crafters were welcome to join us to start, continue, or even finish their crafts from home in the presence of fellow creatives. 

“Every neighborhood needs a cafe,” Josh shares right off the bat. As the manager of Calibre Coffee, Josh along with the rest of the team, have made it a point to build something larger than just a location to grab a coffee to go. They saw the opportunity to create a place of connection for the surrounding community and have established themselves and continued to build on that very idea.

There are times when you have those big plans, the ones that require you to be wide awake and ready to go, and you think coffee is just the little treat you need. You order, you drink, you enjoy, you wait, anticipating the subtle alertness that is sure to come. And nothing. You drink your coffee, and not only do you not feel energized, but you still feel sleepy. So what happened?

March always feels like the deep breath before the exhale. The light lingers a little longer, the air softens (just slightly), and we start emerging from full-on winter mode. After months of bundling up and keeping cozy, it finally feels like we’re stepping out of hibernation — and we’re celebrating the best way we know how: with coffee, community, and a lineup of events at Tala.

We hosted our annual holiday party last Saturday at our roastery, featuring the same theme as the cafes: Cozy Cabin Christmas. Everyone came dressed in their best flannels to eat some barbecue and play bingo. We try to get all of the staff together as much as possible, but it was especially nice to have everyone here to celebrate the holidays!
